I am recent member of the IRONDames and am excited to participate in supporting the team goal of promoting fitness and supporting the Wellspring Centre in memory of those lost to cancer. At Centric Health/LifeMark Health we are creating linkages with the Wellspring centre to potentailly provide outreach services to people surviving cancer.
After many years of competing in dragon boat racing with the Great White North Women’s dragon boat team I had the privilege of coaching the Knot A Breast dragon boat team, breast cancer survivors from Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville and St. Catharine’s. This journey allowed me to represent Canada at the World Dragon Boat Championships in Berlin in 2005. Several of us from the team paddled for gold! What a thrill it was to participate in an international event. I was so proud to be a Canadian athlete, a goal I had never set for myself and if not for the affiliation with Knot a Breast, unlikely to have realized.
Unfortunately cancer is not kind and we lost a few from the team.
The IRONDames and their cause now inspire me. As a fundraising requirement, my fitness goal is to race the Half Centurion in Collingwood on Sunday, September 16th. I thought it was 50 K but yikes…it is 50 miles! Start training hard...not much time left!
The IRONDame quest to Believe, Inspire, Persevere will carry me through the ride along with Marla Ashmore as my domestique! So if you are able, please click on the Sponsor Me link below and make a difference!
Your encouragement and support are greatly appreciated.
