Hi everybody,
I've been posting a bit of our last Guatemala mission on social media and hoping to keep the overwhelming generosity going for this critical mission.
I will be participating again in our follow up surgical relief mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala with members of Team Broken Earth Newfoundland on February 17-26. The full medical teams going with disciplines in orthopedics, general surgery, and women's health are volunteers providing critical services using their own personal vacation time away from family in addition to creative fundraising when able. We will be travelling with the Lions Club's Recycle For Sight Program as well, where I will be assisting teams of optometrists in vision screening and dispensing recycled eyewear at no charge. I assisted the Lions Club in Chinandega, Nicaragua back on a similar mission in 2020 and can't emphasize how sweet it is to watch somebody see their child clearly for the first time ever.
The lack of glasses denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment, and a better quality of life.
We collect used eyewear at various community locations in Newfoundland & Labrador
We sort, clean, determine prescription strengths
We carefully package and store eyewear for medical missions like this one
At the mission site, eye care professionals perform vision screenings and dispense eyewear to adults and children at no charge
