Hi Friends :)
I have recently started a new position with the surgical program back at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH). Day one, I met some pretty amazing people who do medical mission work in countries far less fortunate then us. This team travels to preform surgeries in communities who do not have the resources, equipment, and tools to properly care for these patients.
This year the team of surgical staff (many of whom work at RVH and live in our area) is travelling to Guatemala in October for 10 days, and I have been given an amazing opportunity to join this wonderful surgical and medical team - Team Broken Earth to travel to Guatemala to help bring care to those in need!
I will be traveling with Team Broken Earth Barrie as a PACU recovery nurse :)
Team Broken Earth is group of volunteer driven registered medical charity. The team is made up of doctors, nurses, and specialized healthcare professionals who come together for a week-long medical mission to offer critical health services to the people who need them the most.
Team Broken Earth has treated over 20,000 patients to date who require orthopedic, trauma, hernia, cleft palate, and eye care surgeries.
Apart of Team Broken Earth efforts is to help and empower rural communities with knowledge, skill, and preventative measures in order to give the people the tools they need to live a happy and healthy life.
The cost of this trip is 2,700$, and I have created to my own fundraising page to collect donations in support for this effort.
I think this opportunity i have been fortuante enough to be given, is and will be, life changing and I cannot wait to use the skill and knowledge I have gained throughout my nursing years.
Nothing would mean more to me, my career, and my passion to help those in need if you could help me reach my fundraising goals.
