Dear family and friends,
It is with great pride that I will be joining Team Broken Earth Barrie Surgical Team. This will be my second volunteer humanitarian surgical mission to Antigua Guatemala.
This years mission is booked for the week of October 12 to October 20, 2024
(Yes, Thanksgiving weekend)
Last year’s mission we were able to complete 76 surgeries and 79 dental cases.
Our Guatemalan patients travel from nearly 14hrs away from their families and livelihood to receive surgical care they desperately needed. I was in awe of their stoicism, and strength to endure such a long travel, and still arriving beaming with thankfulness.
I have never experience such an impactful gratitude from patients. Guatemalan’s kindness, love, and thankfulness is overwhelming. Despite not being able to speak their language I could feel what they were saying to me. Their chants, tears of gratitude filled my soul with solace.
This year we will again be providing life changing surgeries in the disciplines of gynecology, orthopaedics, general surgeries, and dental surgeries for underprivileged rural Guatemalans. My role in this mission is to work in the operating room theatres along side our surgeons.
As with many missions of this nature there is a personal cost associated with it. Every member has been asked to provide $2700 Canadian dollars to cover the cost of our flights, loggings, meals, and other transportation. I am hopeful that I can collect donations to support this mission.
Please note if you do donate, you will receive a tax receipt directly from Team Broken Earth.
Thank you for your generosity, kindness, and support for making it possible for me to travel to give back humanity.
Heart felt thank you ?
Karlene
