“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” – R.R.
My journey towards healthcare started fairly early. From a young age, I was captivated by the struggles and challenges faced by those around me and around the world and as a result I often found myself asking questions: How? Why? Where? And finally, after long and in depth discussions with my accommodating parents, I usually ended with what can I do?
Fast forward 20 years from that inquisitive little girl, and I am proud to say I have graduated with a Bachelors of Nursing. Through my healthcare journey, I have found my passion while working in the operating room. As luck would have it, that little girl grew up to become someone who has the opportunity to use her knowledge, skills and compassionate heart to helps others. Finally, the answer to my lingering question of “what can I do?” has come full circle and I am honored and proud to say I will be participating in a medical and education mission trip with Team Broken Earth in Guatemala City this coming November 2017.
Guatemala is the most populated state in Central America and as a result faces a unique set of challenges in relation to accessing healthcare services and a limited amount of healthcare resources. Our teams intention is to provide not-for-profit surgical services to those with inadequate access to care. Broken Earth is a volunteer task force and runs off of the support of donations provided by people like you!
I hope you consider helping me and the Broken Earth team reach our fundraising goals. Please click the "Sponsor Me" to make a donation.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Shaina Orr
