Bandit was barely 1 year old in May 2013 when he was picked up by Mat-Su Animal Shelter running around with a bloody and mangled foot. The shelter suspects he was caught in a trap. His foot could not be saved, and so they amputated his leg at the shoulder. During his recovery, his foster mom shared his story and picture on the FaceBook page for Tripawds.com, a national support organization for animals with 3 legs. His striking picture caught our attention, and we were surprised to learn that he was located in Palmer. We were already familiar with tripawds so there was no hesitation to have him join our family.
Bandit is very adept at getting around on 3 legs. He can run, jump, climb and lift his leg like any other dog (Pssst – he doesn’t know he is different) He loves attention, going on walks, playing with his plush and squeaky toys, playing with other dogs, and just lying in the sun. He runs like the wind for about 45 minutes, and then is ready for a nap.
As a runner, Bandit is really in his element at Dog Jog and has helped raise much needed funds for Friends of Pets in the past. Bandit and I are looking forward to participating in Dog Jog 2024 to raise much needed funds for Friends of Pets. For 35 years, this all-volunteer organization has helped companion animals and their families through rescue and adoption, education, spay/neuter information and assistance, crisis assistance and more. Thank you for reading Bandit’s story and for your kind support. Together we are making a difference!
