The goal of trauma-informed practice is to=0D=0A  create a safe environment that (a) avoids re-traumatizing people and=0D=0A  (b) removes barriers that people who?ve experienced trauma might=0D=0A  encounter. =0D=0A=0D=0AIn this session, you?ll learn how editors can apply the principles of=0D=0A  trauma-informed practice in their work?both when crafting=0D=0A  communications for audiences who may have experienced trauma and when=0D=0A  working with authors who may have trauma in their background. =0D=0A=0D=0A  Iva Cheung is a Certified Professional Editor,=0D=0A  indexer, publishing consultant, and health communication researcher.=0D=0A  She teaches Plain Language in Health Literacy for Simon=0D=0A  Fraser University?s Plain Language Certificate and has worked with=0D=0A  historically silenced populations to create accessible health=0D=0A  information. She has won Editors Canada?s Tom Fairley Award for=0D=0A  Editorial Excellence, President?s Award for Volunteer Service, and=0D=0A  Karen Virag Award for promoting the editing profession.
