Hi, my name is Meg and I am 14 years old. I have just started grade nine which is exciting but also terrifying. I am taking two classes this semester and my goal is to attend as many days as I can. It helps that one of my classes happens to be my favourite subject: art. I have always used art and crafts to help me manage my severe anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic attacks. Additionally, I have attention deficit disorder and I was diagnosed with epilepsy earlier this year. The other way that I cope is by spending as much time as I can around animals. My family has two dogs, a rescued beagle named Bailey and a pug named Lulu. We also have a cat named Luna Lovekitty, fish and a leopard gecko. I enjoy spending time with animals outside of our home as well. I train and walk dogs and pet-sit cats and dogs in our neighbourhood. Horses and horseback riding have been a passion of mine too since I was seven. Unfortunately, I have recently stopped riding as I feel too anxious to continue. I am lucky though as I still get to spend a lot of time volunteering at a barn where I help to look after a horse, a donkey, two miniature ponies and two swans. Since being around animals is the best medicine for me, I am thrilled, excited, elated and grateful to be on the waitlist to receive a service dog. I have always hoped that one day I would have one and I can’t wait to meet my new friend. My mom wrote on my application that my world is become increasingly smaller. I know that with the support of a trained service dog by my side I will have the bravery and confidence to make my world big again. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I appreciate any donation that you can make to help me raise my goal of $20,000.
