I am writing on behalf of my loving spouse, Daniel. Daniel enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) when he was 20 years old. Following multiple deployments as an Infanteer, Daniel decided that remining in the CAF as a first responder would be a good continuation of his career. However, after 18 years serving others through these incredibly stressful roles and burying emerging symptoms, he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). His diagnosis had him released from the military. This significantly changed our family dynamic and the way that Daniel sees himself, but it gave a new purpose. The path to recovery that Daniel has undertaken takes courage and honesty. Opening and showing weakness to others about his situation are difficult tasks. Daniel is showing a lot of humility to reach his goal: getting better. Currently, Daniel has to organize his schedule around my work schedule, as any tasks outside the home, such as driving his car or going to his medical appointments, create a lot of anxiety. That is the reason why Daniel reached out to Kingston 4 Paws. He has now been approved to receive a service dog that will be specifically trained to support him. His future service dog will be a companion and confidant in Daniel’s life. The bond created will help Daniel to cope with the symptoms and continue his road towards achieving his goal. For 11 years Daniel’s Dog (seen in picture) was his Fireteam partner, from all the stories I have been told, it was always an adventure. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kingston 4 Paws for this opportunity and thank you dearest donor for your encouragement towards Daniel’s improved quality of life.
