Start Keelboat Sailing ($385) Course Description:
Start
Keelboat Sailing is an entry-level standard for those who have
little, or no sailing experience and just want to build some basic
skills to get out on the water. Learning is at a comfortable pace
over two days on the water.
Short periods of moderate upper body exertion, and a moderate level
of arm strength will be required. Participants will have the
opportunity to experience sun, wind, spray, rain, and temperatures
consistent with the time of year they take part in this activity. When
underway the vessel may exhibit irregular motion due to wind and waves
and temperatures may be cooler than on land. Participants will be
expected to learn and demonstrate skills and perform tasks while the
vessel is at the dock, at anchor, and when the vessel is underway.
The course is 14 hours held on two consecutive weekends, either
being Saturdays or Sundays. Program is 9am-5pm from the Rocky Point
Pier. Students will sail on either an 8.3 or 9-meter keelboat in the
Port Moody area, with a maximum of four students per boat to ensure
personalized instruction from a certified instructor.
By the end of the course, successful participants will be able to
competently contribute as crew members to the operation of a keelboat
in moderate daytime conditions.
Successful completion of the course leads to the Sail Canada Start
Keelboat Sailing certification.
