Discover Sailing Session – $100

Get a taste of sailing with RPSA! This single-day group lesson is ideal for adults (18+) curious to explore the basics of sailing. Learn essential terminology, helm skills like steering and sail adjustment, all while practicing on our C420 dinghies—two-person training boats designed to develop beginner skills. Sessions run for 4 hours, typically on weekend afternoons.

CANSail Basic Course – $700

Designed for adults (18+) with little or no sailing experience, this comprehensive multi-session program introduces participants to the fundamentals of sailing in the C420 dinghy. Upon completion, participants earn Sail Canada’s CANSail 1 and 2 certifications, qualifying them for club membership and boat access.

Topics include knots, points of sail, capsizing, basic helm skills, terminology, and more, with extensive on-the-water practice. Sessions are 3 hours twice a week in the evenings for four weeks or 4 hours on weekends for six weeks.

Start Keelboat Sailing - $385

Start Keelboat Sailing is an entry-level Sail Canada program designed for those with little or no on-water experience. This 14-hour course, held over two consecutive Saturdays or Sundays in Port Moody, focuses on building basic sailing skills in a relaxed environment. Students will learn keelboat operation, including boat handling, rigging, sail trim, steering, and safety procedures, aboard 8.3-9 meter boats with a maximum of four participants per vessel. Taught by certified instructors, the course prepares participants to confidently contribute as crew in moderate daytime conditions and earn the Sail Canada Start Keelboat Sailing certification.

Basic Cruising - $875-1495

Basic Cruising introduces participants with little or no sailing experience to keelboat fundamentals, leading to potential certification as a Sail Canada Skipper or Competent Crew, and optionally, a Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate. The course covers knots, points of sail, navigation, anchoring, docking, motoring, and safety, with hands-on practice on 8.3-9m keelboats in Port Moody. With small groups (max four students per boat) and certified instructors, it’s an engaging pathway into sailing as a skipper or crew member.

Course Formats:

  • $875: Three weekday evening classes and three weekend on-water sessions.
  • $975: Four consecutive weekdays, 8 hours/day, mostly on the water.
  • $1495: Five days and four nights live aboard, cruising Howe Sound

Intermediate Cruising - $1695

The Intermediate Cruising course is for sailors with basic experience looking to advance their skills. Prerequisites include Basic Cruising, Basic Coastal Navigation, and Radio Operator certifications. Over six days aboard a 9m keelboat in the Gulf Islands, students will learn coastal navigation, passage planning, advanced docking, and anchoring while gaining experience in complex maneuvers and taking on skipper responsibilities. Taught by certified instructors with a maximum of four students per boat, this live-aboard course includes all meals and prepares participants to skipper on longer voyages or charter a boat. Successful completion earns the Intermediate Cruising certification.
