Spontaneous Art in the Context of Psychoanalytically Oriented Child Therapy

About the presentation In this 2-hour CICAPP distance-education event, psychotherapist/art therapist Sarah Brodie will introduce case examples to challenge participants to align spontaneous art making in the context of psychoanalytically-oriented child therapy, with case formulation that underlies the art. In the Q&A discussion, Sarah can lend her expertise in setting the stage for art making in session work with children and adolescents, media overview, and suggestions for the therapist. Sarah will be reading Winnicott’s Playing & Reality to have as a theoretical touchstone for this discussion. Finally, Sarah will offer a creative prompt for countertransference art, an asset for psychoanalytically informed supervision.
About the Presenter Sarah Brodie is a registered psychotherapist working in private practice at The Arterie, in Burlington, Ontario. She trained as an art therapist at Concordia University, Montreal, and as a child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist at CICAPP. Sarah works with both children and adults, and considers all session work to be creative arts therapy, even when it's 'spoken word.'
