What are the common problems when participants upload email addresses?
These are some of the common problems that participants may
experience when uploading email addresses into their Pledge-a-thon
participant account.
-
The file failed to upload:
- Your import will fail if your file is not in a .csv file
format. Check to make sure that your file is not an Excel (.xls)
format, in which case you should save it as a .csv file instead.
- Your file must include a header row with the column header
name (e.g. First Name, Last Name, Email).
- The system will stop uploading a file, once it reads too many
lines without valid data, such as a valid email address. This is
to protect your account from uploading a corrupt file.
Therefore, try sorting your data by the email column, and remove
any rows without valid email addresses which will be grouped
together after sorting.
- Each row must contain either a first or last name.
- Each row must contain a properly formatted email address
without any apostrophes, extra characters or spaces.
- Save your file with a maximum of 2,000 emails, as the system
will not let you upload more. This is to prevent the system
being used for spamming purposes.
-
Several email addresses from the CSV file were not
uploaded:
- Check to make sure these addresses are well formed.
- Each row must contain either a first or last name.
- Each row must contain a properly formatted email address
without any apostrophes, extra characters or spaces.
- You can easily delete the rows without email addresses by
sorting the data by the Email Address column and deleting
all the rows without email addresses which will be grouped
together at the bottom of the list.
- If you file includes extra characters in the email
addresses, you can easily delete these extra characters
using the Search/Replace function within Excel. Just
enter the extra character (such as ") in the Find
what field, leave the Replace with field
blank, and click Replace All. Repeat the process to
remove any apostrophes [‘], the quotes [“], the question
marks [?] and any other illegal character that should be removed.
- If there are any duplicate emails, try to remove all of
these duplications. These are easier to spot once you have
sorted the data by email address.
- There is a limit of 2,000 email addresses that a participant
can upload to their account. This is to prevent the system being
used for spamming purposes.
- The system will stop the file importing process if there are
too many rows without valid data, such as a valid email address.
This is to protect your account from uploading a corrupt file.
To fix: sort the list by email address (using the Sort function
in Excel), delete all rows without valid email addresses, save
the file, and try the upload again. Duplicate emails will not be
uploaded twice.
-
Error 910:
- Relates to an "illegal character in the email
address". This could be caused by an additional space,
punctuation, or other character in the middle of the email
addresses that were unsuccessfully uploaded.
- To fix: Review the .csv import file, modify all emails which
were not successfully imported, and try again. Duplicate emails
will not be uploaded twice.
