How do I setup eStore shipping methods?

You can give customers a choice of shipping methods. Create as many shipping methods as required for different regions, delivery methods, and prices. (See example)

Fees for a specific shipping method can be calculated in a variety of ways:

  • A flat shipping fee regardless of the items and quantities purchased [Base Price].
  • A shipping fee calculated as a percentage of the value of the item purchased, with a minimum shipping fee [Minimum Price + By Price Price].
  • A shipping fee calculated based on the item's weight and size dimensions [By Weight Price + By Size Price]. Shipping costs can be calculated on the true weight/size/volume of each item, or can be calculated based on a factor representing a weight/size/volume range.
  • A shipping fee based on a flat rate for each item.  It can be a single flat rate regardless of the quantities purchased, or it can be a different flat rate based on quantity ranges (e.g. $3 flat rate if you purchase 1-2 items, or $5 if you puchase 3-9 items, or $10 if purchase 10 or more items).
  • Or, a combination of all fees described above.

The Weight Multiple, Size Multiple, and Price Multiple are all multipled by the quantity and the shipping method price for each. By contrast, the Flat Rate Multiple is not multipled by the quantity, but is multipled by the shipping method Flat Rate Price.

You can also choose to let customers charge shipping to their own courier account. Customers provide their courier account numbers during the checkout process. You notify the shipping company when the order is ready for pick-up, and the courier fees are charged directly to the customer.

Step 1 - Create a shipping method Back to Top
  1. From the Delivery Methods section of the Shopping Cart service menu, choose Shipping .
  2. Click Add Shipping Method.
  3. Enter the Method Name, such as: Economic Surface Parcel, Express Post, Next Day Air, Purolator, FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. This field has a limit of maximum 60 characters.
  4. For Delivery Time , enter the anticipated shipping time. For example:
    • 4-6 business days from pick-up
    • 2 Business days (when in stock)
    • 2 Business Days, delivery typically by 10:30 a.m
    • Estimated shipping time is 7-21 business days
  5. Choose the Currency for this delivery method. The Shipping Method will only be displayed to customers purchasing in this currency.
  6. Choose the Language for this delivery method. The Shipping Method will only be displayed to customers purchasing in this language.
  7. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the Base Price to charge this flat rate. Or if not applicable, leave the base amount at $0.00.
  8. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the Minimum Price to charge this amount at minimum. If the calculated shipping costs by weight, size and/or price are less than this amount, then this minimum amount will be charged.
  9. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the By Weight Price to charge shipping fees by weight of the item.
    • The Product Weight Multiple can be calculated in any weight measurement (ounces, pounds, grams, kilograms, factor, etc). However, you must use the same weight measurement consistently across all products and all shipping methods.
    • The Product Weight Multiple can also be calculated in factors. For example: Assign a "1" to items weighing 30 grams or less. Assign a "2" to items weighing between 30 - 60 grams. Assign a "3" to items weighing more than 60 grams.
    • To calculate this component of the shipping fee, this amount will be multiplied by the Product Weight Multiple, as well as, by the quantity of this item included in the order.
    • For example, if the cost of shipping an item is $0.50 per ounce, enter $0.50 in the By Weight Price, and seperately enter the weight of the item in ounces in the Product Setupsuch as 8 oz). When a customer purchases 2 of these items, the shipping fee will be calculated as follows:

[$0.50 x 8 oz x 2 items purchased = $8.00] + the Base Price entered above + any additional shipping fees by size or by price.

    • If this amount is less than the Minimum Price specified above, then the minimum amount will be charged.
  10. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the By Size Price to charge shipping fees by the size of the item.
    • The Product Size Multiple can be calculated in any size or volume measurement (inches, centimeters, fluid ounces, liters, factor, etc). However, you must use the same size measurement consistently across all products and all shipping methods.
    • The Product Size Multiple can also be calculated in factors. For example, assign a "1" to items with a size of 10 x 10 x 10 inches or less. Assign a "2" to items between 20 x 10 x 10 to 30 x 10 x 10 inches. Assign a "3" to items with a size of more than 30 x 10 x 10 inches.
    • To calculate this component of the shipping fee, this amount will be multiplied by the Product Size Multiple, as well as, by the quantity of this item included in the order.
    • For example, if the cost of shipping an item is $0.25 per cubic centimeter, enter $0.25 in the By Size Price, and seperately enter the dimensions of the item in cubic centimeters in the Product Setup(such as 10 cubic centimeters). When a customer purchases 3 of these items, the shipping fee will be calculated as follows:

[$0.25 x 10 cubic centimeters x 3 items purchased = $8.00] + the Base Price entered above + any additional shipping fees by weight or by price.

    • If this amount is less than the Minimum Price specified above, then the minimum amount will be charged.
  11. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the By Price Price to charge shipping fees by the price of the item.
    • To calculate this component of the shipping fee, this amount will be multiplied by the Product Price Multiple, as well as, by the quantity of this item included in the order.
    • For example, if the cost of shipping an item is 8% of the $20.00 value of the item, enter $0.08 in the By Price Price, and seperately enter "1" in the Product Setup. When a customer purchases 5 of these items, the shipping fee will be calculated as follows:

[$0.08 x 1 factor x 5 items purchased x $20.00 item price = $8.00] + the Base Price entered above + any additional shipping fees by size or by weight.

    • If this amount is less than the Minimum Price specified above, then the minimum amount will be charged.
  12. Optionally, enter a dollar amount in the By Flat Rate Price to charge a flat shipping fee for the package size chosen.
    • To calculate this component of the shipping fee, this amount will be added as a flat rate to the shipping fees.
    • For example, if the cost of shipping an item is $5 for quantities of 1-9 units; and $10 for quantities of 10+ units, enter $1.00 in the Flat Rate Price, and seperately enter "5" in the Flat Rate Multiple section of Product Setup for quantities 1-9 and enter a "10" in the Flat Rate Multiple section of Product Setupfor quantities 10+. When a customer purchases 5 of these items, the shipping fee will be calculated as follows:

[$1.00 x 5 factor = $5.00] + the Base Price entered above + any additional shipping fees by size or by weight.

    • If this amount is less than the Minimum Price specified above, then the minimum amount will be charged.
  13. In Description of this shipping method, enter any information about the shipping method that customers may want to know. For example:
    • Expedited Parcel Delivery by Canada Post is the cheapest delivery method we offer for delivery within Canada and less expensive than the Purolator or Federal Express courier options.
    • Xpresspost - USA is a mail delivery service that provides fast, guaranteed delivery - at a cost much less than courier - to every address in the U.S.A., including P.O. boxes.
    • International Air Parcel is a shipping service that provides economical delivery at moderate speed for parcels to international destinations.
  14. Optionally, allow customers to use their own courier account by requesting their courier account number. You then provide your customer's courier account number to the shipping company when the order is ready for pick-up, so that the courier will charge the shipping fees directly to the customer.
    • NOTE: Set all amounts to $0.00 so that you do not charge shipping fees to the customer at the time of checkout.
    • See an example of how to setup a shipping method for ShipEx Customer Account.
  15. Select the countries to which this shipping method applies. This shipping method will only be displayed for orders where the shipping destination matches the list of checked countries.
    • To select all countries in a region click Check. Or, click Uncheck to start over if a mistake was made.
  16. Click Save to add the Shipping Method to your eStore.
  17. Repeat the process for each additional shipping method for other destinations (e.g. US, Canada, Europe, International, etc.) or for other delivery methods (e.g. Economic Surface Parcel, Express Post, Next Day Air, Purolator, FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc).
  18. Once you have created your shipping methods, you are ready to add the shipping multiplier to the setup of each product (see next step).
Step 2 - Add the shipping multiplier to each product Back to Top

Now that you have created one or more shipping methods, you must add the shipping multiplier to the setup of each product, by modifying the details in the package price section.
